HR Highlight

                               Sally Beckett-Jeffrey

Sally works in the Charleston Admin/HR office. She spent her first seven years with MIL
as a business analyst providing project management support for the Department of State.
She naturally gravitated toward HR-related needs and provided assistance to Charleston’s
management team before formally moving into an HR role four years ago. Sally is passionate
about providing exceptional customer service to our employees through respectful and
courteous interactions. She lives by the rule that there is never a reason to be disrespectful. She
is also a “numbers-geek” and enjoys the clarity that a solid data set provides. In her past career
as a Six Sigma Black Belt, she helped teams optimize processes by reducing errors and re-work.

         Avoid the Trap of

         Micromanagement in 8 Steps:

         1. Understand intention(s): Ask yourself what drives you as a leader when
working on a tactical level with your team.
         2. Hire the right people: Surround yourself with a team that you trust
         3. Physically remove yourself from the team: Leave behind an explicit
           statement of trust.
         4. Accept errors: Everyone makes mistakes, accept them as part of the
           learning and coaching process.
         5. Create Transparency: Have access to details, make sure that the process or
project is transparent, and the details are available.

         6. Set clear goals: Goals are expectations of the intended outcome, leave the
exact path open towards achieving them.

                               7. Leave your comfort zone: This may not be easy but five your team more
                                 responsibility than you are comfortable.
                               8. Think about the flipside: You are also reporting to someone! Lead others as you
                                 would like to be led!
