Compliance: The COVID-19 Edition
You have all heard the many acronyms that our HR business partners use in
conversation. As a supervisor, it is important that you are familiar with them
as well. Here are some bites of the HR Alphabet Soup that will become part of
everyone’s vocabulary as we discuss returning to work!
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
An ADA reasonable accommodation is a modification of job duties or the work
environment that enables a qualified individual with a disability to attain the
same level of performance or to enjoy equal benefits and privileges of employ-
ment available to a similarly-situated employees without a disability. Examples
might include the use of personal protective equipment (e.g. face masks, gloves,
or gowns), shift changes or changes to work stations to limit exposure to others,
or teleworking. Reasonable accommodations are granted on a case-by-case basis
after proper analysis of the disability in question verifies the necessity of the
accommodation ensures a modification does not cause an undue hardship (i.e.
significant difficulty or expense) to MIL.
Though ADA doesn’t apply, employees who have concerns about those with
whom they live or care for may apply for flex work arrangements through the
same process.
