As the 90-day performance review approaches, taking the time to prepare thoughtfully can make a significant
difference in its effectiveness. By leveraging various sources of feedback, you can provide a comprehensive
evaluation that acknowledges growth, addresses challenges, and charts a clear path for the team member’s ongoing
development. Let’s delve into the essential steps of preparation to ensure a successful review:
Review One-on-One Notes and Conversations: Start by revisiting your one-on-one meeting
notes with the team member. These records capture valuable insights into their progress,
achievements, and any concerns raised during previous discussions. Pay attention to both positive
developments and potential areas for improvement.
Gather Feedback from the Team Member’s Mentor and Colleagues: Reach out to the team
member’s mentor and colleagues to obtain additional perspectives on their performance. These
individuals might offer valuable observations and insights that enrich your evaluation. Encourage
honest and constructive feedback to gain a holistic understanding of the team member’s
contributions and areas where they could excel further.
Identify Areas of Growth: Acknowledge and celebrate the team member’s accomplishments
and areas of growth during their first three months at MIL. Recognize their achievements, such as

with coworkers and clients. Highlighting these positive aspects helps motivate and boost the team
member’s confidence.
Determine Supportive Options: Having identified areas that require attention, consider
the different ways you can support the team member’s growth and development. Whether it’s
additional training, mentorship, or access to resources, offering concrete options shows your
commitment to their success.
As you gear up for the 90-day performance review, the “Performing” phase is your chance to create a meaningful
and engaging conversation with your team member. This is more than just a formal meeting; it’s an opportunity to
