company news
MIL at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station
The US Air Force Space Command (SPACECOM), Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC), is facing an immediate, high priority
requirement to determine the cost to replace the existing Data Center at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. The current facility, built in
the early 1950s and shared by NASA, is scheduled for imminent replacement by a designated “Range Communications Facility” (RCF).
Determining the replacement cost required SPACECOM to rapidly acquire an infusion of IT systems engineering and integration
expertise as well as extensive knowledge and experience with military construction (MILCON) projects and of the Program Objective
Memorandum (POM) package process.
MIL’s C4IS Sector is assisting SMC in meeting this challenge and is providing a customized solution through a combined Naval Air
Warfare Center – Aircraft Division, Special Communications Mission Solutions (SCMS) Division / MIL C4IS Sector team of highly
specialized technical experts with extensive experience in IT systems engineering and integration, MEGA MILCON projects, IT
systems requirements analysis, project management, and POM package submission. This team of experts has an on-site office provided
by SMC at Patrick Air Force Base, FL which is adjacent to Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, site of the current Data Center and where
the new RCF will be located. The combined SCMS / MIL C4IS team has allowed SMC to focus dedicated, highly specialized resources
on the challenges associated with the creation of comprehensive costing documentation that will allow the project to move forward on
time and within budget.
