be considered as commenced”. He reasoned that the Mexican army had entered
the U.S. and fired first. Four Texas regiments were sent to the area and the U.S.
               congress declared war on Mexico.

The Americans struck swiftly and won two major battles in Texas even though
they were greatly out numbered. The Mexicans fell back in disorder and with
shattered morale. American armies marched into Mexico across the Rio Grande.
Most of the entire Mexican War was fought outside Texas. The war was over in
               a few months.

In July 1848 the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed between the U.S. and
Mexico. Through this treaty the U.S. purchased from Mexico for $15,000,000.00
and assumption of Mexico’s debts California, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah,
Nevada, Wyoming, and part of Colorado.

               ONE FOY COMES TO TEXAS

It is not known how many Foys came to Texas during this war. But, we know one
did. BENJAMIN FRANKLIN FOY left his home in Georgia and came to Texas
to fight. For his efforts he was awarded a parcel of land. The next chapter will
discuss BENJAMIN FRANKLIN FOY, the father of JOHN ELON FOY, the
               father of the Cisco Clan.
