CHAPTER SUMMARY
❖ The pharmacokinetics of drug absorption may be described by zero-order or first-
order kinetics.
❖ Drug elimination from the body is generally described by first-order kinetics.
❖ Using the compartment model, various important pharmacokinetics parameters
about drug absorption such as ka, k, C max, t max, and other parameters may be calculated
from data by the method of residuals (feathering).
❖ The pharmacokinetic parameters are important in evaluating drug absorption and
understanding how these parameters affect drug concentrations in the body.
❖ There are two methods to compute some pharmacokinetic parameters from
urinary excretion data (rate of urinary excretion data and sigma minus methods).
❖ Urinary drug excretion methods are time-consuming for a drug with a long
elimination half-life (t ).
