Chapter Six
EOS Block Producers
To maintain decentralization, public blockchains store
their data on many servers instead of a single
database. The main role of block producers is to act
as units that host these data on their servers. They
own a copy of all the data of the network, thereby
providing redundancy.
EOS Block Producers function like bitcoin miners.
They validate transactions on the EOS network
similar to the way miners validate transactions in the
bitcoin network. But unlike Bitcoin miners, they don’t
compete to produce blocks, instead, they take turns.
Block producers only compete to get votes from the
EOS token holders. The more votes they get, the
more they stand a chance to get into the top 21.
