会話 3 : Precautions and Official Information Sharing
The doctor suspects PM2.5 pollution and gives
some allergy prevention methods.
医師は PM2.5 汚染を疑い、アレルギー予防法を勧めます。
Ms. Allen : Am I allergic to PM 2.5?
6
Doctor : Well, strictly speaking, it is an irritant , not an allergy.
Ms. Allen : Can you explain?
7
Doctor : Yes. When the levels of pollutants in the air are extremely high, as they have been lately,
there are a lot of irritants in the air.
Ms. Allen : And these cause asthma?
9
8
Doctor : Not exactly. Your asthma was probably a latent condition that may have been triggered
or irritated by the air pollutants.
Ms. Allen : What can I do about this?
Doctor : I will some prescribe some medicine. Have you ever used an inhaler?
Ms. Allen : No, I haven't.
10
Doctor : Well, I think in your case, an inhaled corticosteroid may help to keep the airways open
by relaxing the throat muscles. This will ease the asthma symptoms.
Ms. Allen : Will this work with the PM 2.5 too?
Doctor : Well. Not necessarily, they will reduce the symptoms but if you are being affected by the air

pollution, I think for extra precaution , some proper masks would help when you are outside.
Ms. Allen : I usually wear a mask anyway. Are there any special masks I should wear?
Doctor : Well, I cannot strongly recommend any specific brand, but if you visit the pharmacy next
door, I think they may have a small selection.
Ms. Allen : OK. I will look into that.
Doctor : Also avoid doing exercise outside during the PM 2.5 high warning days. There are some
government sites that record the levels and provide warnings. I will give you some information to
take with you to use.
Ms. Allen : Thank you, doctor.
