First-aid Kits
All employees working in the field
are required to have a first-aid kit
accessible at all times. You will be
provided with a first-aid kit during
orientation. All items must be kept in
good working order and items should
be replaced as soon as practical after
use. Advice on how to restock the kit
can be obtained from the office.
First-aid kits must only be used for
work-related purposes and must be
returned if you cease employment.
The contents of your first-aid kit
should be reviewed every 12 months
to ensure all items are accounted for
and are in good working order.
Administering First Aid
It is a requirement that all employees
working with customers in the home
maintain current CPR and first-aid
qualifications through an approved,
Registered Training Organisation.
In emergency situations requiring
first aid, you should always refer to
the training undertaken and act in
accordance with first-aid procedures
taught as a qualified first aider.
Fire Safety
In the event of a fire in the
customer’s home:
•
Ensure both you and the customer
are safe
•
Confine smoke and fire by closing
doors and windows if possible
•
Extinguish or control the fire to the
extent possible without ever putting
yourself or the customer in danger
•
Remove yourself and your customer
from danger
•
Contact 000 and request Fire and
Rescue Service. Inform the operator
if the customer requires special
assistance, and don’t hang up until
the operator has all the information
they need.
Then:
•
Inform your Coordinator if you have
not already done so
•
Reassure the customer based on
your assessment of the situation
•
Remain calm, knowing that
assistance is on the way
•
When the fire service arrives, follow
all instructions
•
Complete required documentation-
e.g. Incident/Critical Incident Report
Form.
Working in Isolation

working in isolation you are required
to:
•
•
•

you at all times (please notify the
office if there are issues with service
coverage)
