Page 46 - Summer Programme 2020
P. 46
Welcome to the Chemistry ‘Into Year 10’ page. This term we
started the GCSE course by discovering the structure of the
atom, how atoms form ions and subsequently combine to
form new substances by ionic bonding. Ionic bonding is one
of the three ways that atoms can combine to form
new substances and we will meet the other two methods in
September.
We then looked at the major numerical topic in chemistry –
Stoichiometry. This involved a study of relative atomic
masses, formula masses and balancing equations. This page
contains a list of the key assignments based on these
topics. They are split into Foundation (grades 1-5) and Higher
(grades 5-9). All students will need to be familiar with the
foundation topics, while only those of you aiming for the
higher grades need to be confident with the higher topics.
If you have not completed all the set
assignments, then following are the key ones you should aim
to complete over the summer break. This will ensure that
you will start the new term with the correct level of
knowledge and understanding.
