The evaluator(s) attempts to come up
with a “success story” for each step in
the process. If she cannot come up with
one, she instead creates a “failure sto-
ry” and assesses why the user might
not accomplish the task based on the
METHOD 3: Cognitive Walkthrough
interface design. These insights are
then used to improve the usability of the
wayfinding signage.
Cognitive walkthroughs are used to
evaluate whether an system is
understandable and easy to learn based
on the user’s problem solving mental
operations, and can be particularly ef-
fective in situations where a person is
likely to be a first or one time user of the
system.
