A PALE CELADON JADE CARVING OF
A SEATED BUDDHA
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
The figure is well carved with pendulous ears and eyes
downcast to give an impression of gentle contemplation,
the hands held in dhyanamudra supporting a sphere,
seated in dhyanasana under the voluminous outer robe
fallen in folds around the base, the inner robe gathered
across the midriff with a bow revealing the bare
chest. The stone is of an even, pale greenish tone with
concentrated areas of faint russet specks on the back.
