archaic bronze fangding, each side is decorated with a
taotie mask on a ground of scrolling lotus sprays, divided

flanges, all raised above four cabriole legs emerging
from lions masks. The rectangular domed cover has a
gilt-bronze reticulated panel on each side with three bats
flying amid clouds, below a finely cast finial in the form of
a lion with one front paw on a brocade ball. The shaped
champlevé stand is decorated with lotus scrolls on the
sides and the top.
