The occasion of this
accession was the recent
auction sale of the Robert
Hoe collection at the
American Art Galleries.
In this collection the
Chinese cloisonné
enamels were the rarest
and most important
feature. Mr Avery at the
time remarked that the
opportunity offered at the
Hoe collection sale will
never occur again.
