A BLANC-DE-CHINE FIGURAL WENCHANG
AND ACOLYTES GROUP
Late Ming dynasty
Finely modelled with the God of Literature and an
entourage of four figures on rockwork, Wenchang
wearing his scholar’s robe and high hat seated to
the centre beside Kuixing, the God of four stars,
and Zhuyi, the distributor of examination results,
above Baite, the horse of Wenchang, with bridle
and trappings flanked by two attendants, one of
whom holds a book and the other a ruyi sceptre,
all covered in a creamy-white glaze.

queues around a square table and two stools, one
holding a long pipe, another with his hat on a stool,
all supported on a raised platform relief-moulded
with a dragon within a cartouche.
