A FINE AND RARE FAMILLE ROSE ‘SANDUO’ TEA
YONGZHENG SIX-CHARACTER MARK IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE 含長壽之意。三者合之,寓意多子、多福、多壽,是謂「三多」。雖然

The three types of fruiting branches combined together forms the
‘Three Abundances’, sanduo, and together they symbolise the wish for
numerous sons, a long life and boundless benefits.
Yongzheng-marked bowls of this pattern are extremely rare and very
few examples are known. A similar pair of sanduo bowls from the A.E.
Hippisley Collection, also of Yongzheng mark and period, was sold at
Anderson Galleries, New York, 30 January 1925, lot 194 (fig. 1). A similar
pair of sanduo bowls, also of Yongzheng mark and period, from the E. T.
Chow Collection, was sold three times at Sotheby’s over the past half-
century, the most recent being 5 April 2004, at Sotheby’s Hong Kong,
lot 247. On the E. T. Chow bowls, however, only one fruit was borne on
the peach and pomegranate branches.
