A GILT-BRONZE FIGURE OF SHADAKSHARI
AVALOKITESHVARA
QING DYNASTY, 17TH/18TH CENTURY
the figure seated in dhyanasana on a lotus pedestal, the
principle hands in namaskara mudra, the secondary
hands raised with one holding a flower, wearing
extravagant jewellery, draped with a billowing celestial
scarf around the shoulders and arms falling to the base,
the serene face with a downcast expression framed by
a pair of large circular earrings and a five-point diadem
securing the hair swept in a top knot surmounted by a
figure of Amitabha
