QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
the bell-shaped base rising to a central bulb supporting
a large circular drip tray, set to the centre with a tall
tapering cylindrical neck, surmounted by a double-
bulbous section below a smaller tray fitted with a metal
pricket, decorated with lotus blossoms borne on dense
scrolling leafy stems against a turquoise-ground

similarly decorated with lotus between ruyi pendants

each supported on a rectangular base and rising to a
large stylised shou character in openwork forming the
shaft, all below a foliate-shaped pan enamelled with lotus
blossoms, fitted with a lobed column beneath a smaller
tray set with a gilt-bronze pricket

Compare a candlestick of this type, modelled with a xi
(‘double-happiness’) character as the shaft, in the Palace
