PROPERTY OF A LADY

           LOTS 378–382

           Lt Colonel James Leslie Rose Weir FRGS, Star of
           Persia, CIE, was born in Ghazipur India in 1883.
           After serving with the Indian 5th Cavalry he joined
           the Foreign and Political Department in 1908.
           He spoke thirteen languages, including Persian,
           becoming Consul in Kermanshah and Shiraz from
           1918- 1920. In Rangoon in 1912 he married Thyra
           Sommers who was herself awarded the Kaiser-i-
           Hind First Class Gold medal in 1932. His diplomatic
           duties took him to Gwalior, Punjab, Gyantse,
           Kashmir and Baluchistan;  he was Political Officer
           for Sikkim, Bhutan and Tibet from 1928 to 1933. In
           Lhasa the customary exchange of gifts as a courtesy
           between officials resulted in these small Chinese
           bowls and artefacts, in fine condition despite having   Lt Colonel Leslie Weir (seated centre) and his wife Thyra, in Lhasa in 1930, surrounded by
           travelled the world and handed down in the family   their staff.
