3 The present lot is an excellent example of very fine Kangxi period
A RARE ‘MING-STYLE’ BLUE AND WHITE BOWL ‘Ming-style’ blue and white porcelain. The rich deep cobalt blue tones
Chenghua six-character mark, Kangxi achieved on this bowl, as well as the style of design and composition
Elegantly potted with rounded sides above a short foot, the exterior were clearly inspired by similar figural blue and white pieces from
painted in rich blue tones with a continuous heavenly landscape scene, the early Ming dynasty. This includes decorative elements such as
depicting a female deity accompanied by three female attendants the continuous scene of a terraced courtyard, with billowing clouds
within a terraced courtyard by a pavilion surrounded by clouds, one enveloping areas of the design, and the extremely precise and detailed
attendant leads with a candle lit, all amidst willow trees, flowering rendering of figures. Compare a Kangxi period bowl, apocryphal
plants, tall rockwork and distant mountains, the base with a Chenghua Xuande mark with a very similar scene, illustrated in A Panorama of

HK$250,000 - 350,000 The illustration of court ladies or celestial maidens in garden or
US$32,000 - 45,000 courtyard settings was frequently produced in the early Ming, and
was particularly favoured during the Xuande period. Examples of blue

Mrs Walter Sedgwick (1883-1967) holding a lantern, lighting the way for her mistress in a deer-drawn
Sotheby’s London, 1 November 1965, lot 178 carriage, illustrated in ibid., pp.244-247, nos.92 and 93. These type of
Hans Goldstein collection and thence by descent bowls would have been the prototype for the present bowl. There are
however, discernable stylistic differences between the Ming and Qing
Walter Sedgwick夫人 (1883-1967) 舊藏 versions, with the latter’s clouds executed with a more ‘pencilled’ effect

此器青花繪《仕女遊園圖》,其造型、紋飾明顯受明代人物圖題材所
影響,即所謂的「官仿官」,其青花發色青翠,富有層次。國立故宮
博物院藏一件康熙仿宣德青花仕女秉燭夜遊圖碗可作比較,見《故宮
藏瓷大系宣德之部:上》,台北,2000年,頁53,圖46。明宣德時
期以仕女題材最為常見,參考兩件明宣德帶款例子,見同上,頁244-
247,編號92及93。類似於本器的康熙青花作品採納了明代青花器上
的畫風,但繪畫技藝較為工細,層次較豐富。
