The present bodhisattva belongs to a small group of seated Buddhist gilt-
bronzes, dated to the mid to late Ming period, with separately cast lotus
bases raised on galleried plinths. Compare a fgure of Avalokitesvara in the
Chang Foundation, illustrated Buddhist Images in Gilt Metal, Taiwan, 1993,
p. 88, no. 37; and an example sold at Christie’s Hong Kong, 29 November
2005, lot 1613.
