A LARGE MOULDED AND CARVED
CELADON ‘PHOENIX TAIL’ VASE
MING DYNASTY, 16TH-17TH CENTURY
The heavily potted vase is moulded with peony-
scrolls above a band of carved overlapping lotus
petals. The trumpet-form neck is applied with
further peony sprays beneath horizontal ribbed
bands on the underside of the faring mouth rim.
The body is covered overall with a crackled glaze of
sea-green tone with the exception of the unglazed
foot rim.
