A COPPER SPHERICAL INCENSE BURNER AND COVER
QING DYNASTY, 18TH / 19TH CENTURY
delicately modelled with a spherical body comprising two hemispheres, each reticulated
with five roundels, two enclosing a coin-shaped design surrounded by geometric patterns,
the other three enclosing a stylised shou character, the upper hemisphere further inlaid in
silver with mythical beasts amidst cloud swirls, the lower similarly decorated with designs
of floral motifs, including lotus and prunus blossoms, the interior fitted with three ring
gimbals and a central bowl to hold the gui-form incense burner, the surface patinated to a
warm caramel-brown tone, together with a later chain
