Shûzan. Mid-19th century
The bare-chested god sits with a tama in his
hand, the other hand resting on the bag placed
next to him. The cord holes lined with gray
horn. Signed Shûzan.

326 An Edo school boxwood okimono-type
netsuke of Hotei and a karako, by Gyokkô.
Mid-19th century
Hotei sits pot-bellied with a karako in front of
him who strikes the belly with a flywhisk as if
it were a mokugyo. The hairs of the flywhisk of
bone. Signed Gyokkô.
