390 A fine boxwood netsuke of a shishi and young.
Mid 19th century
Seated on its hind legs, head turned, with a brocade
ball carved in openwork and with a loose ball inside,
the left paw protectively placed over its young. The
larger shishi’s eye pupils inlaid in black horn. Signed
Masayoshi on a bar to the underside. Cracks.

391 An Edo school ivory netsuke of a shishi with a ball,
by Gyokuyôsai. 19th century
Seated, the head slightly turned to the left with a
long ribbon in his mouth, tied to the ball upon which
the shishi places its forepaw. Signed Gyokuyôsai.
