by Kiyokatsu. 19th century
The nuts are arranged into a large and compact
composition, showing one single three-sided
nut, in Japan considered to bring good luck,
parallel to the auspicious meaning of the
four-leaved clover in the West.

459 A lacquer mask netsuke of an monkey.
19th century
The face rendered in gold maki-e, the open
mouth with two rows of silvery teeth and
a red mouth cavity, the fur rendered with
very fine lines of silvery grey lacquer.
