463 An ivory netsuke of a Niô. Early 19th century
Standing with both hands forming fists, the mouth
open with a visible tongue. The eye pupils of black
horn. Signed Masakazu in an oval reserve. Loss to
the garment, one arm and leg restored.

464 Stretching Daruma. Wood and red lacquer.
Late 19th century
Yawning after waking up from the nine-year-long
meditation, Daruma stretches his arms and legs.
His robe lacquered red, his teeth and eyes of bone,
the eye pupils of horn. Signed Shunsai on an inlayed
ivory tablet. Chipped.

465 A boxwood and ivory netsuke of a dancing
monkey, by Tôkoku. Late 19th century
Standing in a dancing posture with a large straw hat
with red-lacquer loops, a jacket and holding a fan in
his hands. Boxwood, the mask of ivory with darkly
stained eyes and further details. Signed Tôkoku on a
red-lacquer tablet.
