     A RARE RETICULATED LONGQUAN CELADON

     PEAR-SHAPED VASE, YUHUCHUNPING

     MING DYNASTY (1368-1644)

     The pear-shaped body is decorated in openwork with a broad
     undulating peony band to reveal the inner vase, all above a band
     of upright lappets and below bands of ruyi-head, pendent leaves
     and geometric pattern. Covered overall with a glaze of olive-green
     tone pooling to darker tones in the recesses except for an unglazed
     ring.

     Longquan celadon glazed vases of this type are rare. Compare, a
     similarly decorated Longquan celadon bottle vase pierced with peony
     band fitted with a gilt-bronze base and neck sold at Sotheby’s London,
     7 November 2012, lot 221.
