    finely streaked with russet ‘hare’s fur’ markings, pooling in an

    irregular line above the foot exposing the body fired to a purplish-

    brown colour. The Cizhou jar is painted in brown on a white

    slip with stylised flowers separated by vertical spear-shaped lines

    and covered in a clear glaze. The Ding-type dish is carved with

    two fish swimming amongst swirling waves represented by light

    combing. It is covered overall with a glaze of ivory tone pooling

    in the recesses with the exception of the rim which reveals the fine

    white body.

    Jian bowl: 5 in. (13 cm.) diam.; Cizhou jar: 7Ω in. (19 cm.) high;

    Ding-type dish: 4æ in. (12 cm.) diam.                                (3)
