A BLUE AND WHITE ‘LOTUS’ BOWL, Lianzi wan
XUANDE SIX-CHARACTER MARK IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE WITHIN A
DOUBLE CIRCLE AND OF THE PERIOD (1426-1435)
The interior of the bowl is painted in deep ink-blue with a stylised
four-petalled flower head below a band of florets and crosses, and
is encircled by a band of pendent trefoils, all below a cash diaper
band at the rim. The exterior is decorated with a band of upright
lotus petals between keyfret bands around the mouth and foot
rims.
