    A BLUE AND WHITE ‘DRAGON’ Jar, ZHADOU

    ZHENGDE FOUR-CHARACTER MARK IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE WITHIN A
    DOUBLE CIRCLE AND OF THE PERIOD (1506-1521)

    The compressed body is painted in underglaze blue with two
    scaly five-clawed dragons striding amidst scrolling, leafy lotus
    stems. The exterior and interior of the flared neck are similarly
    decorated, with a band of pencilled ruyi-heads enclosing trefoils
    encircling the spreading foot.
