A RARE AND LARGE ZHANGZHOU ENAMELED DISH
LATE MING DYNASTY, 17TH CENTURY PROVENANCE:
The center is decorated in turquoise glaze with a Daoist deity and a deer S. Taniguchi, Osaka, 1959.
in a rocky landscape, and the cavetto has shaped panels of bird and John Yeon (1910-1994) Collection, Portland, Oregon.
flowers, separated by four characters reading 'yu tang jia qi' (Precious
vessel for the Jade Hall). A very similar Zhangzhou enameled dish of smaller size (38.8 cm.
diam.), dated to Ming dynasty, 17th century, decorated with the same
15Ω in. (39.4 cm.) diam.
scene albeit some variations in the background, is in The Museum of
Oriental Ceramics, Osaka, Museum no.01004.
