The flattened circular bottle vividly painted with
a carp surrounded by red and black fan-tailed
goldfish among aquatic plants, the reverse in a
similar setting, inscribed at the top left, tourmaline
stopper with a pearl finial, 5.4cm (2in) high; the
other finely depicted with an elegant spotted
deer turning its head to the right, standing beside
stalks of bamboo, the reverse with an ox standing
on a river bank surrounded by a mountainous
landscape, 5.9cm (2 1/3in) high. (3).

Meng Zishou is a talented artist and reputed
for his portrait painting as well as various other
subjects.
The subject of fan-tailed fish is a popular theme
in snuff bottle painting, which symbolises
abundance.

Two inside-painted glass snuff bottles
The double snuff bottle painted on the front with
two mountainous landscape enclosing pavilions
and trees, inscribed at the top left, the reverse
decorated similarly except with one side painted
with a butterfly hovering atop flora sprays, two
glass stoppers, 5.2cm (2in) high; the other slender
bottle meticulously painted with a riverscape with
a solitary figure punting a craft beneath mountains
and trees, inscribed at the top left, the other side
with two figures standing on a rocky peninsula,
metal stopper, 4.9cm (2in) high.(5).
