264 Also known as Jiqian Wang, and Chi-Chien Wang, C.C.Wang was a
C.C. Wang (1907-2003) New York City-based artist and art collector. Born in Suzhou in 1907, he
Landscape studied law in Shanghai, and then decided to pursue an artistic career in
Ink and colour on paper, depicting small houses huddled under towering 1936. In 1949 he emigrated to the US, where his renowned collection
grey and blue cliffs, inscribed and sealed on the left, framed and glazed. of ancient Chinese paintings now resides in the Metropolitan Museum
Dated bingyin year (1986) of Art in New York. His ‘literati’ style of painting was not permitted
41cm x 66cm (16in x 26in) in China in the years immediately after the revolution, meaning that
£6,000 - 12,000 C.C.Wang and a small group of his fellow expatriots are the among the
HK$71,000 - 140,000 CNY56,000 - 110,000 last practitioners of this traditional style.
