Cast Xuande six-character mark, 18th century
The bulbous body undecorated between a
band containing two pairs of confronted
stylised phoenix on a formal spiral ground
on the neck, and another band of formal
spirals at the splayed foot, the two handles
each shaped as the head of a horned and
bearded mythical beast, the underside cast
with two five-clawed dragons amidst flames
surrounding the six-character mark.

handles
Cast Xuande six-character mark, 17th/18th
century
Heavily cast with a single fine rib around
the curving body tapering to a gently flaring
foot, flanked on each side by an unusually
boldly formed elephant-head handle with
sharp tusks and articulated trunk ending in a
tightly-curled snout.
