                     Landscape after Shen Zhou
                     Folding fan, framed and glazed, ink and
                     color on paper, inscribed by the artist with a
                     dedication, and signed Xue an Xia Jingguan
                     with two seals of the artist reading Kangqiao
                     (Cambridge) Ju and Xia Jingguan , with two
                     collector’s seals.

                     Xia Jingguan was an influential educator and
                     essayist during the Late Qing/Republic period.
                     Serving for a time as Director of Fudan College
                     in Shanghai from 1907-1909, and after 1911
                     he became an editor of Commercial Press
                     until 1919. He later served as the Education
                     Commissioner for Zhejiang province, and the
                     chief Librarian for the Metropolitan Library in
                     Beijing. During the course of his distinguished
                     career he was the author of numerous studies
                     on Tang and Song dynasty poetry.
