A FINELY CARVED PALE CELADON JADE
TABLE SCREEN
QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)
The rectangular panel is finely carved in high relief on one side
with a scholar and his attendant ascending a steep path through a
mountainous landscape with pine, wutong and bamboo, toward an
open pavilion nestled within the cliffs. Another scholar is depicted
in contemplation resting on a terrace of a pavilion overlooking a
distant waterfall. The reverse is further decorated with the ‘Three
Friends of Winter’, pine, prunus and bamboo.
