A CARVED BOXWOOD FIGURE AND A
PAINTED LACQUER BOX AND COVER
Late Qing Dynasty
The first carved as a gentleman scholar,
seated on rockwork, holding a gnarled ruyi
and wearing voluminous belted robes; the
second of octagonal form, painted and gilt
with bats, flower sprays, ruyi and foliate
motifs. The figure 10.5cm (4.1/8in) high. (3).

HARDWOOD FIGURE
19th/20th century
The bamboo brushpots of cylindrical form,
carved in shallow relief with landscapes, the
smaller one with a calligraphic inscription;
and a hardwood ‘boy and water buffalo’
group, reticulated hardwood stand.
The tallest brush pot: 19.5cm (7 5/8in) high

of bats to the centre, the edges with dragons
chasing flaming pearls, box; the second of
rectangular form, with cash and archaistic
inscriptions on a simulated natural stone
surface ground, the reverse with seal script
inscription, box.
