panel enclosing confronting phoenix amongst
peony sprays issuing from scrolling leafy
stems, within cusped corner spandrels of
matching design, all on an ochre ground
reserved with a red wan-pattern ground
framed with a floral and foliate border. 47cm

Tibet, 19th century
Decorated with a central cusped cartouche
enclosing a writhing forward-facing dragon
in pursuit of a flaming pearl, amongst cloud
scrolls, within gilt foliate corner spandrels,
reserved on a red ground, all within a border
of swastika pattern panels and further gilt
foliate panels, bearing a seal of Loseling,
a College of Drepung Monastery, one of
the three great Gelug-pa Monasteries near
Lhasa. 46.5cm (18.1/4in) x 35cm (13.3/4in) x
83cm (32.3/4in).

forward-facing dragon grasping a flaming
pearl amongst cloud scrolls, all within
cusped corner spandrels enclosing entwined
scrolling foliage, all within borders of further
polychrome clouds, all reserved on a crimson
ground, the sides decorated with stylised
