polychrome pigments with a central quatrefoil
panel enclosing a ferocious writhing dragon
grasping a flaming pearl amongst scrolling
leafy lotus stems, on a floral brocade pattern
ground, set within cusped corner spandrels
enclosing scrolling foliage, framed within a

The red ground boldly painted in gilt with
raised outlines with a central ogival cartouche
of a forward-facing, writhing dragon amongst
leafy lotus sprays, on a ground of stylised
‘Shou’ characters and wan symbols, all
framed by cusped corner spandrels of
entwined formal scrolls and within a border

of flaming jewels amongst peonies, against
an elaborate gilt and green lattice work on
