A RARE SMALL CARVED YAOZHOU CELADON TRUMPET-NECK VASE
NORTHERN SONG DYNASTY (AD 960-1127)
The vase is potted with a baluster body supported on a splayed foot, with an angular sloping shoulder
rising to a fared trumpet neck. The body is boldly carved and combed with peony scroll, the shoulder with
overlapping lotus petals. It is covered with a thick lustrous glaze in tones ranging from olive-green to paler
yellow, sufused in some areas with a fne network of crackles. The base is unglazed.
