A DING EWER AND TWO DING SMALL CUPS
NORTHERN SONG-JIN DYNASTY (960-1234)

The ewer is potted with an ovoid body supported on a short foot rising to an incurved rim
forming a small opening. The shoulder is applied with a gently curved spout, surmounted
by an arched handle with incised criss-cross lines terminating at a ruyi-head on one end and
three flower stalks on the other, the ewer fitted with a low dome-shaped cover. The two cups
are potted with rounded sides rising from a short foot. The ewer and two cups are covered in a
clear glaze with a pale ivory-tinge with the exception of the feet revealing the fine white body.

Ewer: 6 in. (15.3 cm.) high; cups: 3¿ in. (8 cm.) diam., box
