A ‘JIZHOU’ ‘PAPERCUT’ BOWL
SOUTHERN SONG DYNASTY
with deeply rounded sides rising to a slightly
incurved rim, the interior with three lozenges
in brown reserved on a mottled brown ground
flecked with white, the exterior applied with a
‘tortoiseshell’ glaze stopping unevenly above
the foot to reveal the pale buff body

NORTHERN SONG / JIN DYNASTY
the compressed globular body with a short
straight neck and wide mouth, set to the
shoulders with four X-pattern slip-decorated
strap handles, the sides applied in white slip
with eight clusters of three vertical ribs under a
rich brownish-black glaze stopping neatly above
the short foot
