A RARE SOAPSTONE FIGURE OF BODHIDHARMA

The figure is portrayed with a broad face detailed with curly brows and a moustache,
shown seated with his left leg raised and left hand resting on his knee, and his right hand
holding a shoe, leaning on an intricate network on intertwined roots. The deity is wearing
voluminous, long-sleeved robes, finely incised and gilt at the hem with floral scrolls on a
stylised waves ground and inlaid with alternating pearls and precious stone beads.
