A carved cinnabar lacquer snuff bottle
Qianlong mark, Circa 1905
Of compressed globular form with a flat lip to the cylindrical neck,
meticulously carved in high relief with an intriguing continuous scene
around the walls depicting a scholar accompanied by his attendant
visiting a figure in his retreat in an impressive palace compound
nestled amongst lush trees, two more scholars walking towards a
studio with one of their attendants carrying a stack of books, all above
a band of vertical lappet petals, surrounding an oval foot ring encircling
the four-character mark incised in regular script.

A carved root amber snuff bottle
1800-1850
Very well-hollowed, of natural pebble form, densely carved in relief on
one side with a bearded sage sitting under a pine tree near a recumbent
deer, and ornamented with lingzhi fungus and rocks, the verso depicting
two egrets wading in a lotus pond, the matrix of mostly a rich honey
tone mottled with patches of yellow-ochre and brown.
