A BRONZE ARCHAISTIC RITUAL
FOOD VESSEL AND COVER, XU
18TH CENTURY
清十八世紀 銅仿古紋盨
The vessel is cast to the exterior with various
bands of archaistic geometric motifs and is
applied to the body with two mythical beast-
head handles. There is a four-character seal
mark reading Wu Xian Xue zhi that may be
translated as ‘Made by Wu Xian Xue’ to the base.

The form of the current piece is based upon a
ritual food vessel which was developed in the
Western Zhou dynasty and was popular until
the Spring and Autumn period.

A BRONZE TWIN-HANDLED TRIPOD
CENSER
17TH-18TH CENTURY
明末清初 沖耳三足銅爐
The censer is raised on three feet and the rounded
body rises towards a fared rim that is modelled
with two upright handles. The base is cast with
an apocryphal Xuande mark within a recessed
rectangle.
