A LARGE SILVER-GREY BRONZE
CIRCULAR MIRROR
EASTERN HAN DYNASTY (AD 25-220)
The large central knob is encircled by a
beaded band, and two horse-drawn chariots
separated from the White Tiger and the
Green Dragon by four nipples within beaded
circles, and interspersed with kneeling Daoist
immortals, all crisply cast within a hatchured
border below a band of dragon/cloud scroll
on the canted rim. The patina is silvery grey
and mottled milky green in color.

PROVENANCE
Acquired in New York, 1990.
A bronze mirror dated to the Han dynasty, of
slightly smaller size (20.8 cm.), with similar
depictions of horse-drawn chariots, but
interspersed with pairs of immortals rather than
the White Tiger and Green Dragon as on the
present mirror, is illustrated in Bronze Articles for
Daily Use, The Complete Collection of Treasures
of the Palace Museum, Hong Kong, 2006, pp.
120-21, no. 101.
東漢 銅青龍白虎鏡
2006年出版故宮博物院藏文物珍品全集,《青銅生
活器》一書中載有一面與本拍品相似的車馬鏡,唯兩
輛車馬之間飾以神人而非青龍白虎,見該書120-121
頁,編號101。

A BRONZE WINE VESSEL AND COVER,
BIANHU
HAN DYNASTY (206 BC-AD 220)
The fattened oval body is raised on a
spreading rectangular foot, and the curve of
the sides is accentuated by shallow, recessed
panels that fank the pair of loops applied to
the narrow sides. The slightly domed cover
has a deep inner rim and a loop in the center.
There is mottled pale olive-brown and milky
green encrustation.
