A GOLD AND TURQUOISE-INLAID BRONZE GARMENT HOOK
LATE WARRING STATES PERIOD, 4TH-3RD CENTURY BC
The slender, arched garment hook is fnely inlaid in gold wire with an intricate pattern
connecting four forets alternating with three barbed motifs, all flled in with turquoise chips.
The reverse is covered in silver sheet, as the button may have been. The end with the animal-
head hook is encased in gold sheet inlaid with a narrow turquoise ‘bead’ border and decorated
in relief on the sides with the scrolling bodies of mythical beasts.

type, both dated Warring States period, 3rd century BC, are illustrated by Julia M. White and Emma C.
