A GILT-BRONZE FIGURE OF A GUARDIAN

MING DYNASTY (1368-1644)
The fgure likely depicts the Guardian of
the West, Virupaksha, standing on a low
base and dressed in armor with monster-
form epaulettes. The benevolent face is
surmounted by a tall diadem decorated with
Buddha images, and is backed by a billowing
celestial scarf.
