A PALE GREENISH-WHITE JADE ‘SCHOLAR AND MONKEY’
GROUP
19TH CENTURY
The group is carved in the round as a scholar stroking his beard
while being observed by both a monkey peering around the side of a
bamboo chair beside him and a bird perched on an openwork branch
of a prunus tree that grows from the rocks that form the reverse. The
semi-translucent stone is of pale greenish-white color.

A WHITE JADE FIGURE OF A LUOHAN
17TH-18TH CENTURY
The luohan has a short curly beard and curly hair bound by a fllet,
and is shown holding a jewel in his right hand while stroking the
head of a small lion with his left. The pale greenish-white stone has a
few tiny russet inclusions and pale russet color on the back.
